Ratepayers call for CEO to return

WITH the latest Logan City Council sworn in this week, there are now community calls for ex-CEO Sharon Kelsey to be offered her job back.

Ms Kelsey, who won a battle to have her legal fees paid by seven former councillors, was removed as CEO by a vote of the seven councillors, with no public reasons offered for her dismissal.

Events stemming from Ms Kelsey’s sacking ultimately led to the previous council’s replacement by the interim administrator, before the election of the current council.

Rod Shaw, president of the Logan Ratepayers Association, said Ms Kelsey should be offered her position, given her qualifications, experience and popularity with staff.

“It will not impact on her QIRC proceedings, in fact it will assist the process, and we need to be cognisant of the fact she was the original ‘Whistleblower’ that alerted the CCC to the indiscretions of the elected officials,” Mr Shaw said.

A number of posts to the Logan Ratepayers Association clearly support the possible reinstatement of Ms Kelsey, with calls for new Logan Mayor Cr Darren Power to raise it with the divisional councillors.

The CEO position remains vacant with Silvio Trinca, the Roads and Infrastructure Director, currently in the role of Acting CEO, it is unclear at this time if the position will be re-advertised.
