April 25 will always be one of the most sacred days of the year for Australians, marking the Anniversary of the Gallipoli landings in 1915 and commemorating the sacrifices of Australian defence personnel in every conflict since federation.
Traditionally service and community organisations would march with RSL sub-branch members to recognise the sacrifices of former and serving ADF personnel, including remembrance services and wreath laying. But with Australia in the middle of the biggest health lockdown in its history, the traditional dawn services and ANZAC Day parades were in
grave danger of being overlooked or cancelled.
Instead, Logan residents can ‘Light Up The Dawn’, as RSL Queensland looks for an alternative way to mark the day. Residents are being asked to stand in their driveways at 6am on April 25, with the RSL streaming a short commemorative service, comprising
The Ode, The Last Post, a minute’s silence, Reveille and the National Anthem.
As part of preparations, the RSL is also asking people to pledge to participate online at rslqld.org to show their support for the revised plans.
